During the early hours of the morning, U.S. military aircrafts flew continuously over Caracas and other parts of Venezuela. Explosions were reported in the vicinity of military targets, ports, airports, and urban areas. At the time of writing, initial reports indicate multiple air strikes, including against the Fuerte Tiuna military base, the capital’s main military installation, and other strategic locations in the country. According to an official statement from the Venezuelan government, the attacks took place in “civilian and military locations in the city of Caracas, the capital of the Republic, and in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.”
Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce that the United States successfully carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and that President Nicolás Maduro had been captured and taken out of the country along with his wife. These statements are part of the political and propaganda offensive of U.S. imperialism and should be seen as such; if confirmed, these attacks represent a brutal, open intervention by the United States with the explicit purpose of imposing its imperialist agenda in Venezuela.
The United States has mobilized vast military forces in the southern Caribbean, the likes of which have not been seen in decades, with Venezuela as its direct target. The Trump administration’s neocolonial offensive has taken a qualitative leap, expressing a major escalation of imperialist aggression not only against the Venezuelan people, but against Latin America as a whole. This military attack constitutes an extreme intensification of a policy of threats, sanctions, blockades, and “maximum pressure,” aimed at forcibly imposing a regime change favorable to the interests of U.S. imperialism.
Donald Trump seeks to impose the most aggressive and reactionary line against Venezuela and the region. Under the hypocritical rhetoric of “hemispheric security” and the “fight against drug trafficking,” the United States is openly resuming gunboat diplomacy, blackmail, and militarization. The strategic objective is to deepen Venezuela’s status as a semi-colony — subordinating its political regime, economy, and strategic resources to the dictates of the White House — while attempting to discipline the peoples of Latin America as a whole.
With this military aggression against Venezuela, the United States seeks to intimidate the entire region as part of its strategy of hemispheric control, guaranteeing privileged and unrestricted access for the United States and its corporations to strategic energy and mineral resources, particularly oil, and reinforcing its political and military dominance over the continent in the face of any form of resistance.
As a socialist, anti-capitalist, and internationalist political current, we firmly condemn this military escalation, its imperial arrogance, and its openly colonial character. We unequivocally declare our most decisive internationalist condemnation of this military intervention by U.S. imperialism. Down with Trump’s militarist offensive! Without giving the slightest political support to Maduro’s authoritarian regime, we stand firmly on the side of its military and its fight to defeat the United States.
We also reiterate our total repudiation and denunciation of the politicians of the rancid Right in Venezuela, such as María Corina Machado, Leopoldo López, Edmundo González, Ledezma, etc., who act merely as auxiliaries for neocolonial interests and have been demanding military intervention from Trump.
Our condemnation is rooted in a class-based, anti-imperialist, and anti-capitalist perspective, totally independent and in opposition to Maduro’s government from the left. Only the conscious mobilization of workers and the people can effectively confront this aggression. Today more than ever, it is an urgent task for the working class and peoples of Latin America united with the youth, working class, and intellectuals in the United States to take the lead in actively condemning this criminal aggression.
That is why we call on workers, young people, and social movements throughout Latin America, the United States, and the entire world to mobilize against this imperialist offensive. In particular, we call on those in the United States who are fighting against racism, militarism, and oppression to confront U.S. imperialism, the main enemy of workers and peoples around the world. Workers in the United States have nothing to gain from Trump’s military adventures, which only defend the interests of bankers and big corporations. The triumph of imperialist arrogance abroad would be a blow to those who struggle within the United States.
The only way out of economic and social crisis and the threats of imperialist powers is to break with capitalism and imperialism and fight for a government of workers and the oppressed that expropriates the bourgeoisie, nationalizes banking and industry under workers’ control, and promotes a socialist economic plan that serves the vast majority. For an anti-imperialist, independent, and class-based response to the imperialist attack on Venezuela!
We affirm our unconditional solidarity with the Venezuelan people against all imperialist interference.
Stop the military attack on Venezuela!
U.S. ships and troops out of the Caribbean and Latin America!
End all economic sanctions against Venezuela!
Down with the air and naval blockade imposed by Trump!
Imperialist aggression must be defeated!
