It's been amazing for us to experience the full process it takes to export a food product. On one hand, we do feel conflicted with all the energy that is required to send our product to all parts of the world. At the same time it brings us great joy to know we are providing this powerful medicine far and wide. From a financial perspective, we receive a much higher price for export products then we would on a local level. Permaculture principal # 3 "Obtain a Yield" speaks to this idea. If we cannot find a way for our systems to be financially viable then they will certainly not be permanent systems. We will continue to explore this idea as our farm matures and continue to look for ways to localize our products and our life. This is a transition movement and the more it gains momentum, the more people will be doing it, and the easier it will become to create local economies.
