THE HOMEBOY BAKERY STORY
In 1992, after the Los Angeles riots, Homeboy Bakery opened in Boyle Heights. The first of Homeboy's social enterprises, the Bakery started as a training ground for aspising bakers. Supplying fresh breads, pastries, and specialty goods to the walk-up counter at Homegirl Cafe, Homeboy Farmer's Markets and restaurants throughout Los Angeles, the Bakery is a place where former enemies bake bread side by side, learning the art and science of preparing breads, pastries, cakes and much more.
OUR BREADS
Homeboy Bakery produces a variety of artisan and commercial breads and rolls. All of our produts are free of perservatives. Most breads start with a preferment made daily with flavorful additions of fresh ingredients.
OUR COOKIES, PASTRIES AND CAKES
Our famous pastries and cookies are made with 100% European butter. Each season, the bakers produce an array of specialty holiday and seasonal items.
OUR LAMINIATED PRODUCTS
We bake a full line of breakfast danish, croissants, and puff pastry items, all made with 100% Plugra butter.
OUR BAKERS
Homeboy is a 100% scratch bakery, a training facility in the old-school tradition. Each baker is trained in one of three specific areas: cake & pastry, laminated dough, and bread & rolls.
Come by and see what our bakers are upto! Please stop by the retail bakery counter in the Homegirl Cafe. We have an assortment of our fresh breads available for purchase. Or you can pick up a morning bagel, scone, pastry or croissant or an afternoon cookie, brownie, lemon bar or cupcake.

Bread can be considered many things: warm; delicious; sustaining. It's also slang for money. This literal slice of life, which follows the typical day of an ex-gang member on his first job in the bakery of Homeboy Industries, underscores the meaning - and the lasting contribution - of "good bread."
