The Syrian war has broken countless families apart.
A neuroscientist, an illustrator, a composer and a literature professor decided to start a crowdfunding campaign Reconnect - help refugees find their families to raise awareness regarding the impact of family fragmentation on the ability of refugees to reconstruct their lives.
The humanitarian crisis resulting from the migration of refugees in Europe has in the past weeks caught the attention and urge to help of many European citizens. Most contributions regard basic needs like shelter, food, etc. Less attention has been paid to the issue of family separation, for which, despite its terrible consequences, a solution faces great obstacles. This year alone 10,000 children arrived unaccompanied to Malta and Italy. Given the size of the emergency UNHCR’s family reunion program is struggling to get the funds needed.
Our hope is that strong participation in this campaign will give visibility to UNHCR's family reunion program, and will constitute one more sign that European values of solidarity are still cherished. Europe has the capacity to respond to this crisis, but it needs a concerted action by the different governments. Any contribution, big or small is an important demonstration of solidarity. Help us show that solidarity is bigger than fear. Strong participation in actions like this only will make pressure on decision makers to change the course of the tragic human crisis we are currently facing. Each and everyone can do something about it. Voice your solidarity. Donate now!
