Produced by Afristar Foundation and Directed by FixerFilm, Power to the People is a documentary showcasing alternative energy and appropriate technology applications in South Africa. The film focuses both on low-tech, small-scale solutions implemented on household and community levels, as well as large-scale national projects utilsing cutting edge innovations.
The documentary outlines the major alternative energy sources: solar, wind, water, biomass and human energy, and shows examples of on-ground applications: from solar water heaters made of recycled poly-tubing to wind farms that will supply entire regions with grid-tied power.
In addition, the documentary explores a range of appropriate technologies relevant to the South African context, for household heating and cooling, alternative transport, greywater recycling, and more.
The aim of the film is to expose viewers to the range of sustainable energy options available to us, to promote behavior change in regards to resource use, as well as to encourage innovation in ways that we can work with nature to provide for our needs without causing harm to the planet and to one another.
