A personal message from the future by Obama's granddaughter
"Dear world leaders, will your grandchildren take pride in the decisions you make today?"
During the Paris Climate Chanse Conference - COP21, political leaders from all over the world have gathered in Paris to discuss what the world needs to do to prevent or mitigate the dangerous effects of climate change. In the 'Future Kids Project', Hermen van der Waal en Christian van Maaren bring close to home what should drive the decisions our leaders are going to make. It's a non-profit project in which potential future grandchildren of political/business leaders of today thank their grandparents for the brave decisions they - should have - made to safeguard the health of our planet.
In this video, Naomi Obama - Barack Obama's granddaughter - thanks her grandfather for making the air clean again, so she and her friends can safely play outside again. She also thanks him for saving the polar bears - they are so cute.
With the Future Kids Project, Hermen en Christian give a voice to a voiceless generation. A generation that has no say in the current policy on climate change, yet will suffer an impact far larger than we see today.
By having kids from the future thank leaders of today with the brave decisions they should make, Hermen and Christian want to step away from the doom and gloom scenarios painted by scientists and environmentalists. They want to instill an awareness of what the effect will be if we all did do the right thing - a healthy planet for our grandchildren.
