One of the favorite arguments against alternative energy is that it isn’t available all the time. The sun goes down. The wind stops blowing. Gotta have that oil! Gotta have that natural gas! If there are accidents due to drilling or fracking, well, that’s just the price we’ve got to pay.
Not so fast. German researchers have come up with a strategy to combine the output from solar, wind and biogas to provide 24/7 energy and eliminate power blackouts. The German Federal Ministry of the Environment funded the research that was demonstrated at the Hanover Trade Fair, which ran from April 8 to 13.
