Living With Dying (2022)

Living With Dying is an intimate glimpse into the experience of facing a life limiting illness and of caring for a loved one in that situation. In honest and tender interviews, 12 residents on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia share their personal reflections on being a patient, a caregiver or a health care professional.

We learn what matters to them most and what some of their hopes and concerns are, giving us insight into how we might navigate this confusing and sometimes frightening journey.

The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society is deeply grateful to these 12 courageous people who generously welcomed us into their homes and their hearts.

Our hands also go up in gratitude to Monata Bev Dixon who shared the experience and beliefs of the shíshálh people which frames and grounds the film.

Hospice volunteers Donna Shugar, Marlena Blavin and Corinne Thorsell were the production team that developed the vision and provided the leadership and coordination behind this project. They worked closely with Velcrow Ripper and Nova Ami of Transparent Film who skillfully and sensitively brought this vision to life. Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ananda Fund for providing the grant that made Living With Dying possible.

Living With Dying can be viewed as one film or can be watched in segments. We hope it will be a source of comfort for people facing a potentially catastrophic diagnosis and those who love and care for them.
