I Believe in Breaking Good

By Tim Anderson / filmsforaction.org

It's interesting to watch Breaking Bad and realize most people probably think/fear the world is run by thugs who would do anything for money, including kill you. Right?

And so most people freeze their hope and aspirations for a better world and just endeavor to survive and thrive personally. And let the world go to hell. I get it. It's scary out there.

But, with support there is a percentage ~ maybe 23% ~ who could choose community, a vision, a plan to take our world back, with love, from the thugs, the corporations, the politicians, the militaries, the rich.

That 23%, those are my new, only congregation, my peeps, my focus, my work group.

To them I ask, Wouldn't most of the criminals, cops, billionaires and soldiers surrender to the moms and shamans and dancers if they were somehow guaranteed housing, work, healthcare, food, education, clothing and a reasonable amount of transportation, plus a meaningful, joyful life in community?

If I have to believe in anything, I think I believe that those who have broken bad would not mostly stay bad if the moms, the Dalai Lamas, the Vandana Shivas, the Starhawks, the Kuciniches, the Naders, the saints, the social workers, teachers, nurses, doctors, therapists, artists ~ and most everyone else who cares ~ took over the world with love. They wouldn't stay bad.

They'd surrender and melt into our ecstatic community.

Even though I'm a good atheist with a strong critique of believing in anything, I guess I do believe in something I can't know or prove. I believe in Breaking Good.
