The time for status quo shortsightedness, superficiality, and consumerist distraction has passed- and your permission is not required.

An Open Letter to the Democratic Party From the Berniecrats
Attention D.N.C. and the corporate establishment: The rules have changed. Or rather, we're putting them back the way they should be, the way they were originally intended. Now it's your job to earn our votes. It's our job to freely decide if you deserve them... or not. America's been giving them to whoever 'might not be as bad as the other guy' for so long now that it's sadly become a normalized abusive relationship. Many perpetrators of their own destruction ignorantly yet vehemently defend it in classic victim-denial mentality. Whilst surrendering any control over their own lives, they may demean and disparage us for patriotically refusing to do so; but our eyes are opened. We respect ourselves (and our country) too much to continue this perpetual race to the bottom. We refuse to be a part of the party elites' scheme they've brainwashed the majority into accepting responsibility for. We reject the enablement of coerced false dichotomies masquerading as democracy. It's an insult to us as citizens, a slap in the face to our founding fathers, and a corporate-sponsored pissing contest all over our nation's now-hollow ideals of equality, justice, and real freedom. News flash: the informed American populace doesn't find that okay.

Here's the deal. We don't give a crap about what you want, or which party is in office. We owe the corrupt two-party system and the egotistical out-of-touch millionaires who run both absolutely nothing. In fact, we're increasingly finding it tough to locate any redeeming qualities in the way you operate, the candidates you choose, or the agendas and policies you adopt. As politicians, it's supposed to be your job to work to earn the support of the people; instead, in true immoral capitalist fashion, you've found a way to purchase it. Through mainstream media, constant PR manipulation, and now paid troll campaign proxies, we've watched you manufacture narratives, blatantly lie and deceive, and purposely instill ignorance to produce uninformed consent. This too has become normalized, to the point of TV "news" now being less trustworthy than many independent blogs. Historically, the majority of Americans buy into this garbage even when it's provably, factually incorrect- this country has been conditioned in nearly every way to blindly settle. Thus our opportunities, jobs, freedoms, incomes, quality of life, security, hope for the future, and nation have all been liquidated in carefully disguised increments at our expense.

So this election you get to see a preview of what will be a growing reality in the years to come. The vast majority of everyone under 40 are disenfranchised with the now-typical phony, self-serving establishment politics. Independents represent the largest percentage voting base. We are the inevitable future, and apparently the conscience of America. If you want our vote, stop acting like greedy businessmen and start acting like our representatives. We vote for civil servants of provable character. We vote for individuals we can trust to defend our interests. We vote not based on label, spin, or fear, but on merit. We don't work for you; you work for us. These last twelve months have made it clear that you don't believe that, and need a reminder. So come August 2nd, if the only trustworthy, qualified candidate was not selected at the contested Democratic Convention, we will accept your resignation as our party of choice and leave en masse. It will be unfortunate that there is no longer any major party with true progressive or ethical values, but that can be easily remedied. We are the largest coalition of civil rights activists in history; our worsening situations ensure our continued efforts and growing support. The People's Party has a nice ring to it.

We aren't responsible for stopping Trump. If he wins, he's on your heads for undemocratically coronating a candidate we made quite clear we could not and would not support. Hillary, and politicians like her, are the cause, product, and facilitators of this corrupt corporatized oligarchy. Voting for her is a vote for fracking, TPP, war, money in politics, conscience-bareft duplicitous political expediency, fraud, electioneering, cover-ups, and scandals; everything she stands for, we find not just destructive, but offensive and repugnant. We will not debase ourselves nor render our one democratic expression of voice meaningless. Neither are acceptable alternatives, and when neither are, that's exactly what we will choose. We won't drink offered bleach because the store was out of the soda we purchased. If you select the unwanted, weaker candidate, your race to the bottom will finally be within sight. There is no lesser evil when both options guarantee our own continued exploitation and enslavement. There is no lesser evil when corruption is so rampant and legitimized. And anyone who thinks otherwise acts out of fear while sending a clear message to the billionaire party cabals, "I will take what is given to me, no matter what the consequences."

Real democracy isn't a staged celebrity death match. Real elections aren't high-dollar pyramid schemes. We deserve true representation, and with or without either party, we will inevitably eventually get it. Like any civil rights issue in America's past, it's worth the work, worth the sacrifice, worth the long haul. Until the bar is set higher, conditions in our government will never change. It's time to stop opening the door for the fox then wondering why the hens are gone. No matter how long it takes to re-establish a fair and equitable system for all, the alternative- a status quo of violence, subjugation, and hopelessness- is no longer acceptable. If you refuse to acknowledge that and us, then we will respond likewise. We support those who support us, it's that simple. Peace. Equality. Fairness. If you want our membership, support, donations, enthusiasm and votes, there's only one way that's happening. Otherwise, we will return your membership rolls to the fractional percentage they were a year ago, and wish you luck in the general election with your struggling candidate. Likely it will even facilitate the long overdue rise of third party alternatives, since that's where the majority of us will be responsibly applying our votes. I guess we'll find out, huh?
