Zeitgeist: Moving Forward (2011)

Directed by Peter Joseph

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is a feature-length documentary by Peter Joseph that argues for a global transition away from our current monetary-based economic system toward a more sustainable and equitable model known as a Resource-Based Economy.

Building on the ideas introduced in Zeitgeist: Addendum and the Zeitgeist Movement Activist and Orientation Guide, the film takes a step-by-step look at the social, psychological, and structural factors that shape human behavior and the world we live in.

It begins by exploring how cultural and economic conditioning influence our values and choices, then examines the systemic flaws of the market economy — including its environmental, social, and moral consequences.

Ultimately, Zeitgeist: Moving Forward presents a vision for a new social paradigm grounded in empirical science and the natural laws that sustain life, aiming to inspire a shift toward cooperation, sustainability, and human well-being.

The film argues that decisions about how we use resources — like food, water, energy, and materials — should be guided by what we actually know from science about how the Earth works and what humans need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

By inviting viewers to question long-held assumptions about work, value, and progress, Zeitgeist: Moving Forward challenges us to imagine what human civilization could look like if it were built on cooperation rather than competition. The film doesn’t just critique the flaws of the current system — it encourages a deeper reflection on our shared responsibility to design a future that prioritizes well-being, ecological balance, and the intelligent use of technology in service of all life on Earth.
