Saving Papua by Not Cycling There

Actually I wanted to cycle from Berlin to West Papua, Indonesia, in order to bring awareness to an ongoing environmental and geopolitical conflict - a fight for independence of the native peoples of Papua against their Indonesian occupation. This occupation is only taking place, because of the natural resources found on Papua that we in the West consume the most.

From Berlin up to India the cycling trip went pretty well, but then things turned complicated. The border between India and Burma was closed. So, people told me to get on an airplane and fly over Burma to Thailand or Singapore and continue the journey from there. This really was the last thing that I felt like doing - because talking about environmental and geopolitical problems that are caused by a growing demand of resources and flying does not make any sense to me.

So, I went back home. This film documents the last leg of a one-year journey: From New Delhi to Nepal, Tibet, China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Ukraine, Poland, Germany.
