9/11: Press for Truth (2006)

Four widowed women who lost their husbands on 9/11, Mindy Kleinberg, Patti Casazza, Lorie Van Auken, and Kristen Breitweiser, became known as the Jersey Girls after banding together to demand something the Bush administration initially resisted: an independent investigation into how 9/11 happened at all. 9/11: Press For Truth follows their fight and the broader documentary trail it opened up.

The film builds its case methodically, working through the failures to intercept hijacked planes, the delayed response from the administration that morning, and what it frames as deliberate stonewalling during the 9/11 Commission's proceedings. Independent investigator Paul Thompson's "Complete 9/11 Timeline" anchors much of this, a project built entirely from mainstream news reports that, once assembled chronologically, surfaces overlooked warnings from foreign intelligence services, including Pakistan's ISI, that never made it into the official account.

The film's sharpest indictment may be aimed at the press itself. It argues that journalists had access to most of the pieces the Jersey Girls and Thompson later assembled, and simply failed to connect them, letting an administration with significant advance warning avoid the scrutiny they deserved.
