It’s easy to fall in love with animated characters and their created personas. Who doesn’t want to believe in a world with magic and ‘happily ever afters’?
Because Earth can, undoubtedly, be a harsh place at times, these imaginative outlets serve an important purpose in fueling the populaces’ desire to strive for more, as well as participate in positive change.
Jeff Hong, however, a former storyboard artist for Disney, is using a complete opposite approach to encourage people to care about world issues.
In project ‘Unhappily Ever After,’ Hong uses childish characters to expose the unfortunate effect pollution, war, and modern society has on the world.
His less than rosy portrayals may not be cheery, but they are poignant in their depictions of very real challenges. From animal testing and ocean pollution to drug addiction and teen suicide, the following images speak volumes:
