My Cuba - An Intimate Look at the Pleasures and Struggles of 6 Different People's Cuba

Cuba - diverse, vibrant and complex - is undergoing immense change. But what does it mean to be Cuban in this time of change? Six people. Six films. From the comedy and ballet worlds of the capital Havana, to the mountains of the Sierra Maestra, to a neighbourhood showdown in Remedios, this series is an intimate look at the pleasures and struggles of six different people's Cuba.

Part 1 - Luis Silva: Being Panfilo

Luis Silva satirises everyday life in Cuba through his popular comic persona - an old man called Panfilo.

Part 2 - Laura Rodriguez: To Dance

We follow a ballet dancer in Carlos Acosta's dance company as she strives to overcome a knee injury before a premiere.

Part 3 - Jose Enrique Jimenez Gomez: El Presidente

Every Christmas, fierce rivalry between Remedios' two neighbourhoods erupts into a festival called "Las Parrandas".

Part 4 - Regla Gonzalez Miro: Rumba Roots

In Matanzas' poorest neighbourhood, one woman is challenging the tradition of rumba by getting girls to play the drums.

Part 5 - Alexis Martinez Pena: The Countryman

A teacher-turned-shoemaker and occasional clown creates a new life in Cuba's Sierra Maestra mountains.

Part 6 - Ailed de Guevara: The Wedding Planner
