Fursa: Water, Work, and Opportunity in Rural Kenya (2024)

A community of disabled people and their families in Makueni County, Kenya, is building something essential: access to safe, drinkable water.

The borehole has already been drilled. The water is there. But without the final stage of completion—filtration, infrastructure, and solar pumping—it remains unsafe to drink.

Fursa (meaning 'opportunity in Swahili) follows the people working to change this.

Through everyday actions—sisal basket-weaving, rope-making, book-keeping, beads work, water collection, small-scale enterprise— a story of agency emerges: communities organising, producing, and sustaining their own future.
