Darkness

Darkness reigns in Liberia. More than 15 years after rebel forces systematically destroyed the energy system during the civil war, only 4% of the population has access to electricity from the grid. Beyond the capital of Monrovia, there simply is no grid.

Follow EnAct to the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute and the Ganta United Methodist Hospital to see how young people who grew up without energy are now trying to pursue professional careers as teachers, doctors and nurses.

And the debilitating cost of relying on 'temporary' solutions like diesel generators. With a diesel bill of $5000 per month, the country's second-largest hospital barely ekes by from one month to the next.
