Alton Sterling Is Just the Latest Example of Systematic Racism in America

Mic

At the time of this publishing, 559 people were killed by police in 2016. And disproportionately, these people were black. They include Alton Sterling — who was killed in an encounter with police while selling CDs outside a supermarket in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was tased to the ground, wrestled and subdued before bullets were fired into his body.

People in the U.S. are beginning to wake up to a problem of systematic racism in the country — and a criminal justice system that doesn't place enough value on black lives.
