Black Pete: Behind the Make-Up

Zwarte Piet, or Black Pete, is a controversial friend to Santa Claus, or Sinterklaas, in the Netherlands. 
As expats and teachers we wanted to find out what Zwarte Piet is all about. 

Is he a racist figure? Is he a racist tradition? 

We spoke to pro- and anti-black Pete activists and learned that Black Pete is not going to be around much longer.
