Films For Action Launches New Mobile Site!

January 25, 2012 - We've launched our new mobile site today, bringing the site's library of over 900 films, independent news and actions to the small screen inside your pocket.

To check it out, simply go to www.filmsforaction.org like normal and you'll automatically be redirected to the mobile version. As you'll immediately see, we've remixed, loved, and simplified the site for full one-collumn browsing delight, requiring us to reclassify the mobile experience from "Dang it, I can't click the tiny link" up to "Epic Awesomeness!" status. Yes, we think the new mobile site is gonna be HUUUGGEE! And we think you'll agree. It's pretty fun to view the site this way.

We've kept all the most important functionality of the desktop site (content and subject filters, search, commenting and sharing) and stripped out the city content for the time being to focus on the core experience.

Since we've made the move to a Facebook integrated commenting system, users can make comments on the site instantly and without logging in if they're already logged into Facebook (which is just about everyone these days). The new commenting integration offers several other benefits, including: Facebook notification for replies, posting your comment to Facebook, and keeping the conversation synced on both Films For Action and Facebook regardless of where new comments are made.

For iPhone and iPad users, which sadly can't view video content that uses flash (Vimeo, Viddler etc) we've automattically hidden videos that cannot be played and grayed out these videos if you're looking for something in search. All YouTube videos work as you'd expect, which account for about 80% of video content on the site.

So, why are you still reading this? Bust out ya phone and have a look!

You can consider this release V1.0, so if you have any suggestions, encounter any problems or want to tell us what a great job we're doing, let us know in the comments below. Cheers! ;)
