Hi. My name is Thomas Toivonen and I am a film-maker from Sweden.
Right now I am working on a film about indigenous people in different parts of the world. The reason for this is to show the similarities in their struggles; to maintain and preserve their way of life. Also to share their knowledge about sustainable living and general wisdom.
In 2013 I went to Brazil and met the Truká people and made a film about their struggle against a planned transposition-project on the São Francisco river. And last year I was in India and met the Birhor and Chenchu people.
This time I am heading for the amazon rainforest to connect with tribes there to highlight the struggles they are facing, including rampant environmental destruction and cultural genocide.
Indigenous cultures own a deep innate knowledge on how to live sustainably and how to relate to each other (maintain relations, solve conflicts etc). A form of wisdom that comes from living in a direct depency inside a certain natural environment.
This is a connection that we the so called "civilized" people have lost with devastating consequences -for us, and the planet we are a part of. And somehow we need to find ourselves back to this kind of consciousness before it's too late.
I am not in it for the money. On the contrary, for the most of the time I am kind of broke because I have to spend all money I can save to finance my own nonprofit projects.
Everything that I do, I share for free, because I believe that the message is more important than anything else. But I still need money to make it possible, and to continue with my project. So, righ now I am are fundraising to continue with my film-project that started in 2013 with the Truká people in Brazil, continued with the Birhor and Chenchu people in India and this time continue from to the Amazon Rainforest: the Lungs of Mother Earth.
Are you up for helping me? I thank you in advance for any kind of support you may want to give me.
