Everyone talks about solving climate change, getting off fossils, getting 100% clean energy.
But when it comes to specifics, few people realize what it will take. As a result, conversations about it are handwavy, vague, confusing and defensive. To cut through all the noise and confusion, we've come up with a metric, the "First Gigawatt Down" to make it easy for everyone to organize around. Any given zero carbon energy supply play can be looked at and quantified through this lens. You can even adapt it to energy demand plays - shorten the field length with a "first giganegawatt down". And, of course, other plays, like agricultural crop use plays, require different metrics.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. We need to start with the basics, which is what this video does as it introduces this new metric.
What is a “First Gigawatt Down”?
The one thing everyone needs to understand if we want to beat the climate crisis. These three words pack a lot of power, and can help us unpack the climate crisis.

DENSITY ALERT! This video may seem over complicated, technical and mathy. Don't panic! In Part II, we'll look at some examples, and it will make more sense. You may even want to skip this video and watch Part II first, then come back for the technical details. Either way, we all really need to understand (and LIVE) this term to solve the climate crisis. To zero carbon and beyond! http://fp2w.org
