Chile tendrá primera planta de Concentración Solar de Potencia de América Latina

El Ministerio de Energía y Corfo dieron a conocer el proyecto ganador del concurso internacional para la construcción de la primera planta de Concentración Solar de Potencia (CSP) de América Latina.

Durante el proceso se evaluaron tres propuestas pertenecientes a las dos empresas referentes del mercado CSP: Abengoa Solar y Solar Reserve. La cartera de Energía y Corfo decidieron adjudicar el concurso al proyecto Cerro Dominador, perteneciente a la empresa Abengoa Solar Chile.

La planta de concentración solar de potencia que se construirá considera una potencia de 110 MW y 17,5 horas de almacenamiento térmico, lo que le permitirá operar con un factor de planta superior al 80%. La iniciativa estará emplazada en la comuna de María Elena, Región de Antofagasta y la inversión estimada asciende a aproximadamente US$ 1.000 millones.

Para su funcionamiento, la planta deberá alinear con precisión sus 10.600 espejos con una superficie de 140 metros cuadrados cada uno, distribuidos en un área circular de aproximadamente tres kilómetros y medio, para reflejar la luz solar que incide sobre ellos en dirección a la parte superior de una torre central de 243 metros de altura.

Para el Ministro de Energía, Jorge Bunster, contar con una planta de Concentración Solar de Potencia traerá múltiples beneficios al país. “Permitirá usar los recursos naturales que tenemos, diversificará el mix de generación de la matriz eléctrica, nos dará mayor independencia energética y permitirá reducir las emisiones”, indicó. Y en buena hora considerando sus 20 años como gerente de Copec, y su apoyo a energías sucias como la termoeléctrica y la producción de carbón en la Isla Riesco.
