Why Capitalism Loves Fossil Fuels

"In this video essay, I look at how the birth of industrial capitalism led to the birth of fossil fuel use at an industrial scale. Specifically, I look at how capitalist forces led factory owners to embrace fossil fuels over water power, despite water being cheaper and more prevalent. Ultimately, capitalism needs power that is both flexible in time and consistent in space and fossil fuels were able to cater to that." - OCC
