Bentley Blockade, Festival of Democracy

On a rainy Monday morning, at the crack of dawn on the 14th April 2014, 3000 concerned protectors came together to defend our land, water and air from the toxic and invasive unconventional gas mining industry.
This was the third week since Metgasco's planned entry date onto the Bentley property. The proposed exploration well, that might have lead to a thousand or more production wells in the Northern Rivers Region, was suspended some weeks later by the state government due to the intense local community resistance and widespread media campaign. The Blockade attracted thousands, many camping full time for weeks or months on the neighbouring property, many more visiting on a daily or weekly basis. All music and footage from this video was captured live on the morning of the 14th.
