7 Real-Life Creatures More Magical Than Pokémon

Wherever you are, you've probably seen people glued to their phones looking for Pokémon to capture - perhaps you're a Pokémon trainer yourself? Not to take anything away from the pursuit of these virtual creatures, but it is in the real world that the most fantastic and wondrous creatures reside. Take time to look around you and you'll be amazed at what you might find. Here are just some of the most awesome animals we share our world with.

First up, Axolotl the Mexican salamander - an amphibian with a sweet smile and fantastic ability to regenerate body parts!

Look out, it's a Giant Asian Mantis! Many early civilizations thought they had supernatural powers and after mating females are known to bite the heads off their partners. Take that patriarchy!

This Golden Snub-nosed Monkey from the mountains in China almost looks made-up! Why the snub-nose you ask? Perhaps as a result of the extreme cold in the winter, where a big nose might get frostbite.

This Stubby Squid was recently spotted in the ocean at a depth of 2,950 feet; not the easiest to reach of creatures, but definitely high on the cute chart.

Here's a super rare Aye-Aye, a primate from Madagascar who has incredible long fingers that are use to tap on trees and listen to the sound in order to find the grubs they eat.

The Spicebush Swallowtail Caterpillar can do something incredible when it feels threatened; tucking its head under its body and using artificial eye markings it can make itself look like a snake!

The male Blue Bird of Paradise likes to show off his dance moves, which are then judged by the females. Ony the flyest will pass the test.

Hopefully this short 'dex' of real-world creatures will inspire you to go looking for some of your own.
