News From Turkey

This is an update on the situation in Turkey from a friend of mine who lives there. Please read and share.

Dear friends,

please share as much as you can:

There was an incredible number of people on that main road from Mecidiyekoy
to Taksim and in the nearby streets: once again, the police has brutally
attacked and once again Erdoğan can get away with this brutality and keeps
putting brother against brother by labelling as marginal terrorists on
national tv the protesters who are fighting to have a real democracy.

Yesterday, at least 500,000 people, if not 1 million, had gathered for the
funeral of Berkin Elvan, the 15 years old boy who was hit in the head by a
tear gas canister fired at close range by the police while he was going to
buy bread for his family during the Gezi Park protests last June, and who
died on Tuesday after 269 days of coma. No investigation has been made by
the police and no policeman has been held accountable for Berkin's murder.
At the funeral, Berkin's mother said: "Allah has not taken my son, Recep
Tayyıp Erdoğan has." The sentence was censored by all the main stream media
outlets in Turkey.

Thanks for sharing,
Delizia
