Rite of Passage

The annual Race to Alaska features countless teams who test their merit in a no-motor race from Port Townsend to Ketchikan. This is already one of the ultimate endurance challenges in the world (documented more fully in the film The Race to Alaska) but Team North2Alaska takes it up a notch. The all-student racing team based out of Port Townsend, WA was originally launched as a community-based senior project to fulfill graduation requirements at the local High School. That year (2017), the team built and sailed their own boat-- a 25' Aluminum Sharpie-- successfully completing the race. This documentary was created in partnership with the Willamette University CCS research grant program and follows their 2019 race North in their quest to beat their own 2017 record.
