24 Hours In an Illegal, Car-free Community

Ever wondered what it would be like to live in a neighborhood that wasn’t designed around cars? Well - in most of the country that’s actually illegal. But in Tempe, AZ there’s a new development called Culdesac that has managed to make it happen. This community is designed around alternative transit first, which means more land is freed up for housing, retail and open space - and so far it seems to be working!

As more modes of transportation become available, how we design cities will shift and change - and Culdesac is exploring that frontier right now. We spent 24 hours there - and didn’t rent a car - just to see what it’s all about!
