Coal based Thermal Power Plants (TPPs) are one of the major sources of air pollution. Capturing the impacts of coal mining and TPPs in and around the central Indian town of Korba, I, as a part of a Greenpeace India team came across some heartbraking stories. While the electricity generated from there powers our homes elsewhere, the people living in those areas suffer tremendous consequences of these TPPs. Their lives have been ravaged by the land, water and air pollution caused by these TPPs which brings to the forefront the consequences of using fossil fuels. While the impacts of coal on climate change is difficult to fathom or visualize fully for some people, the immediate effects of these coal burning thermal power plants are hard to miss. Here is one such story narrated by Rahul Khushwaha, a resident of the town.
