We've heard for years about the dangers of eating too much fat or salt. But there have never been recommended limits for sugar on Canadian food labels, despite emerging research that suggests the sweet stuff may be making more of us fat and sick.
When sugar is consumed in excessive amounts is can lead to cravings and addictions, and some suggest very similar to those with alcohol and tobacco, yet we don't seem to have a problem labelling them as drugs. Jason Vale from the film Hungry for Change states, "it's illegal to give a child cigarettes and alcohol, and so it should be, but it's not illegal to give them white refined sugar or refined fats."
