In recent disasters in Indian Himalayan region we lost many human lives, livestock population, agriculture land, livelihood opportunities and huge infrastructure overnight. The most affected states due to these calamities in India are Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim and part of West Bengal. The flood in Kosi and Indus basins in Nepal and Pakistan had huge impact on the lives and livelihoods of people in the mountainous parts of these Himalayan countries. This short video tells about the kind of disaster most frequently the mountain communities face with a case study from Okhimath (in Uttarakhand state of Indian Himalaya) cloud burst and flash flood that lead to death of 70 people . It has shots of the onsite situation, kind of post disaster measures taken, how the affected are adapting, mitigation measures, and how communities feel about such disasters.
