King Corn is a feature documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation. In the film, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland to learn where their food comes from. With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America’s most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil. But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how we eat—and how we farm.

Own your grocery store!  You can become a member during your next visit to the co-op,  it only takes a moment.  Member benefits begin immediately and just $20 will get you started on your investment toward a stronger, healthier Nevada-grown economy.  The full membership share is $200 per person, most of our members choose to pay this in $20 installments over the course of 10 years.  We Own It!

Shopping at the GBCFC

The GBCFC accepts food stamps, credit cards, local checks* and cash.  *only members are eligible to write checks at the co-op.

There are many benefits to becoming a member at the GBCFC, here are just a few:

  1. You are an actual owner of Nevada’s only currently existing food co-op and you play a big role in supporting our local food system.
  2. You are eligible to become a Hands On Owner and receive additional discounts.
  3. You can vote at any GBCFC election.
  4. You are entitled to receive GBCFC newsletters, which include quarterly coupons for member-owners only.
  5. You are eligible to run for a seat on the GBCFC Board of Directors.
  6. You may place bulk special orders at wonderful prices
