Noise Demo in solidarity with Prisoner Strikes
Sun, Jul 7, 2013 12pm to 1pm
1300 Cherry Street Kansas City, MO 64106
Jul 3, 2013

Bring your pots, pans, air horns, and noise makers. Let's show our solidarity with California prisoners while reminding those in KC that they will never be forgotten <3. We will be holding noise demos at 5 missouri jails/prisons starting in Kansas City, missouri at: Jackson County Detention Center 1300 Cherry Street Kansas City, MO 64106 Noon For a list of prisoner demands and other information consult http://prisonstrike.wordpress.com/prisoner-statements This event is a response to a call for action from wobbly, anarchist, and prison agitator and organizer Philip Ruiz Share widely and invite your friends! --------------- Here is his letter: Revolutionary Greetings! This is written as a call for support and to announce that a state wide prisoner hunger strike is set to take place starting on July 8th. This hunger strike is the third round if its kind. The first one took place in 2011, organized by prisoners in the Pelican Bay SHU. The upcoming strike is in protest of torturous conditions inside the Pelican Bay SHU and such Isolation Units that exist throughout the state and the country. Prisoners inside various prisons in California are expected to participate in solidarity, including the prison where I am currently at. I encourage fellow workers to look into the hunger strike's specific demands while reflecting on the fact that perpetual isolation (as practiced in SHU's) is a form of torture in itself. It not only affects the prisoners who are forced to endure perpetual isolation, but it also torments our loved ones who are on the outside, at the same time, eroding the collective psyche of society by desensitizing people to such wholesale torture. The SHU is not filled with society's “worst of the worst”, as the corporate media and prison officials claim. SHU's are a means to isolate and break defiant spirits and are used on prisoner activists, organizers, and social and political prisoners, often indiscriminately. As a Wobbly, prisoner, and above all a human, I will be participating in the July 8 Hunger Strike out of solidarity. I'm asking Fellow Wobblies, workers, militants, and all passionate human beings for support and solidarity. ------------------ No one is free while others are imprisoned!
