The Real "Us or Them" Choice

The Real "Us or Them" Choice

The most important truth for anyone to understand today is this: Without limits and oversight, Capitalism is Sociopathy. When used as a tool in carefully monitored ethical and humane boundaries, it can indeed be a positive driving force in the advancement of civilization. However, when it morphs into a force unto itself- in charge of its own oversight, protection, even dictating infinite growth at the expense of the many- it destroys all civilization. No matter how much technology or modern conveniences we have amassed, we are demonstrably becoming less civilized, showing less humanity, and continuously normalizing self-indoctrinating capitalist suicide. We're raising ignorant slaves for a system which states that our lives are worth nothing- unless we can convince someone with money otherwise, on their terms, within the environment they have specifically cultivated.

Words like "slavery" are apt, but tend to be immediately rejected because they don't match some dated, historical image of it. Yet how is it anything else? All self-sufficiency and alternative options for existing have been outlawed. If one can't or won't conform, they become illegal anti-citizens- the homeless human refuse we've trained ourselves and our kids to ignore, thereby making sure our country's profitable moral degradation marches on unchallenged. We can't keep prioritizing bankers over babies. We cannot claim to represent anything decent or worth fighting for while the suffering of the least fortunate is accepted so to better facilitate global military and economic conquest. Challenging scientific fact with nothing but smug skepticism and bravado is not civilized behavior; and to be frank, neither is reviving Ronald Reagan's debunked trickle-down "Greatness" rhetoric.

A civilized society will learn from its mistakes. It recognizes both its accomplishments and failures in order to- as one guy put it a few hundred years ago- "form a more perfect union." That essential maturity has been castrated by these for-profit lobbyists and career con-artist politicians whose jobs have become Mercenary Public Relations for highest-bidder partisan representation. An intervention is needed if the richest, most powerful nation on earth is to be a force for good, or one of peace; I respectfully submit that it would probably be best originated by us, We the People. By continually shirking our civic duty we become culpable as well, while forcing other countries to become involved. Cruelty and psychotic imperialism attempting to masquerade as representative democracy needs stopping, no matter how much nationalist rhetoric tries to rally us pawns into defending it.
