What is the Symposium?

Thought-provoking, challenging, and deeply moving, the Symposium is a dynamic multimedia presentation drawing on some of the most respected social and scientific experts of our time, interwoven with wisdom and inspiration from our indigenous partners.

With informative videos and guided personal reflection exercises, the Symposium experience reaches deeply into both the heart and mind.

Testimonials

"I can't tell you how empowering the symposium was for me... The Symposium did exactly what it aims to do: it woke me up! The realization (and reality) that I can still make a valuable contribution have birthed incredible vitality in many dimension of my being, not the least of which is HOPE. It is hope as a dimension of soul; hope committed to actions." - Bianca Powell, Ashland Oregon

"The most amazing thing about the symposium was not the information I gathered about where we are as a society in the world, it was how it all made me feel. Fear, panic, guilt, desperation, helplessness, anger, passion, and love - all these in the space of only a few hours and all felt about the same thing- humanity. Overwhelming. But what was I left with? The understanding that we are, every one of us, connected to each other." - Tara lisa Persaud, Barabados

How the Symposium Works

Many of the Symposium's video segments are educational and informative, providing insight into how our modern worldview and economic and political systems are preventing us from creating the world in which we want to live.

However, knowledge should empower us, and never leave us in frustration or despair. Group interaction exercises and guided personal reflection give participants the tools to move past anxiety or anguish to a place of empowerment.

Throughout your Symposium experience you will:

  • Try on a new way of looking at the world.
  • Begin to appreciate the extraordinary possibilities emerging at this time in history.
  • Investigate the critical role you can play in turning things around.

Inspired Beginnings in the Amazon

To truly ensure that they retain their rightful custodianship of their rainforest lands, our founding indigenous partners, the Achuar, requested that we work to shift the so-called "modern" worldview that places short-term economic gain over the long-term interests of people and planet.

The Awakening the Dreamer Symposium became the first of our transformative learning workshops designed to answer that request.

A Global Community Taking a Stand Together

Each of us wants to live a fulfilling life and to have a positive impact on our families and communities. Since 2005, the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium has helped tens of thousands of people do just that.

Today, more than 3,500 volunteers have delivered the Symposium in over 70 countries and in at least 13 languages. They are a passionate and growing community of people taking a stand for a just, thriving and sustainable world now.

Our Invitation to You

Our human and environmental crises are urgent, and we need each other's support to shift the way we look at and live in the world on a mass scale. Join us in creating a new way forward for the entire human family.
