The Data Behind Occupy Wall Street
Data and charts show a dramatic shift in wealth inequality (towards the top 1%).

In the presentation, charts indicate that policy changes changed the distribution of wealth towards a plutocratic society. Beginning in the 1980's, the tax for highest earners began to decrease leading to a large gap to grow between the top .01% of America and the rest of the nation. Over time as income grew in America, only the top 10% benefited.

From the 1980s, the wealth of the top 1% ballooned (due to tax code changes)

 

By 2007, the top 10% controlled 71% of all wealth.

 

CEO pay skyrocketed from 1990 to as much as 500x the average worker.

 

Corporate income taxes decline while payroll taxes increase.

 

Exxon, Bank of America, GE all paid $0 taxes in 2010.
