How’s He Gonna Pay for it?
Bernie wants free college, free healthcare, to increase Social Security, and create 13 million new jobs. But how the hell is he gonna pay for it? He explains how in every debate. But not everyone has time to tune in (cause they’re working longer and longer hrs with lower and lower wages). So here’s a quick breakdown:
1. Free Public College
Sanders wants every student who has the ability to be able to go to college by reducing student debt and eliminating public college tuition. It’s not a radical idea. Free public college exists in countries all over the world and used to be free in the US.
How’s he gonna pay for it?
A tax on Wall St. speculation. When Wall St.’s greedy, reckless, illegal behavior collapsed the economy in 2008, the American taxpayer bailed out Wall St. Now it’s Wall Street’s turn to help the middle class.
2. Healthcare as a Right
We are the only major country on earth that allows our citizens to get ripped off by private insurance companies, and doesn’t provide healthcare to all citizens as a right. Currently the US pays more and ranks lowest in terms of overall healthcare.
How’s he gonna pay for it?
Increasing income tax (only 2.2%)— But wait a moment, Chicken Little. You will also no longer be getting ripped off by private insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. So every American family will end up saving thousands of dollars.
Today many seniors struggle to live on a meager $1,000/month, so rather than cut back, Bernie wants to expand it to make sure that everyone in this country can retire with the dignity and respect they deserve.
How’s he gonna pay for it?
By lifting the tax cap on social security. Right now a billionaire pays the same amount of money into Social Security as someone who makes $118,500 a year. Sanders has introduced legislation to end this absurdity, by lifting this cap so that everyone who makes over $250,000 a year pays the same percentage of their income into Social Security as middle class and working families.
4. Jobs (13 Million!)
Bernie wants to create new jobs to repair and rebuild our bridges, roads, and broadband connections (US currently only ranks 16th in the world in terms of broadband access and 12th in speed.)
How’s he gonna pay for it?
By eliminating corporate tax loopholes that allows corporations to stash their money in the Cayman Islands and not pay a nickel in taxes — despite making BILLIONS of dollars in profit.
There’s nothing unrealistic about Sanders goals. Most countries have achieved them. However, Sanders and his supporters do recognize it’s politically difficult. All of the enthusiasm to get Bernie elected President must continue to get corrupt members of the house replaced with progressive candidates who truly represent the people’s best interest, like Sanders.
