Obama Makes History

Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for president on August 28, 2008, before 84,000 people at Mile High Stadium, in Denver, CO. It was a historic speech on a historic night -- in a remarkable setting. Never in the nation's history had more Americans attended such an event. Never before had an African-American accepted the presidential nomination of a major party in the United States. And the speech of Barack Obama matched the moment. -- Now, I'm well aware that Obama still does not go far enough to forward a truly progressive agenda - you can look to Naomi Klein's comment on the issue for more on that - but for a moment, for a moment - I could feel my cynicism wash away. If you haven't seen this yet, go ahead and watch it. You'll probably feel it too. Remember, he's only making half the promise. The other half comes from us. After Obama is elected, we've got to keep the pressure on. That's when the real work begins.
