After Watching War Made Easy...

By Tim Hjersted / filmsforaction.org
To everyone who came to the screening on such a nice day, thank you for making the first show of 2008 a great event! We also want to thank Kansas Mutual Aid for hosting a rousing anti-war march down to South Park after the film. After a few months sabbatical, it was great to see you all again. Your support is always greatly appreciated. We've got some big projects in the works for 2008, and the funds raised from this and future screenings will see those projects to fruition...

In other news, now that we've all seen the film, let's take action. Here are some things you can do to address the issues raised in the film: (plus if you want a place to talk more about the film and various anti-war strategy, don't hesitate to leave your comments in the blog)

If you missed the film, want to share it with friends or just want to watch it again, here it is below.

We see an effective anti-war strategy as a two-fold process.
In the short-term, we believe that working to initiate the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney is the only constitutionally acceptable way to reconcile the numerous crimes that have been committed by this administration, both domestic and foreign. This is our best chance to end the Iraq war and avert further wars with Iran and Syria.

Over the long term, it is imperative that we begin to address the problems of the media as one of the main components of our anti-war strategy. As you’ve seen in the film, our current media system played an instrumental role in creating the public consensus necessary for the Bush Administration to launch a pre-emptive and unjust war based on lies. They are using the same propaganda tactics and media spin to get us to accept a war with Iran, and future presidents will no doubt rely on the same methods whenever the next war inevitably becomes “necessary”. Solutions that fix our media will cut right to the root of the problem.

Here are some actions you can take right now:

>> Impeach Cheney First
Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) has called for the House Judiciary Committee to begin immediate hearings on Dennis Kucinich's Cheney-impeachment bill, and has already garnered over 230,000 supporters. Go to WexlerWantsHearings.com to add your signature to the petition. Then go to ImpeachCheney.org to get up to the minute details on further actions you can take to make impeachment happen now. Once the evidence has been brought against Cheney, it will be swift and certain that Bush will come next.

>> Reform Big Media
There are many campaigns being waged to solve some of the biggest Media related problems. StopBigMedia.com and SaveTheInternet.com are excellent places to start, offering tangible, effective actions you can take to help make the media system work for the people, not big business or big government.

>> Stay Informed and Raise Awareness
One of the most important things you can do is to stay informed on this issue through independent, alternative news sources, and share your knowledge with others. Until the mainstream media begin to adequately do their job, we must do it for them. Demand more from newspapers and television broadcasts. Write letters to the editor. Support local Indy Media projects...
