The Prometheus Project (2013)

The Prometheus Project is a movement to end the endemic of violence in the University Area Community (UAC) of the Tampa Bay Region. Modeled after Chicago's Cure Violence program, the Prometheus Project aims to end the pervasive violence in our community. Prometheus will reintroduce reformed ex-convicts into the UAC to interrupt acts of violence before they occur. Cure Violence showed that violent crimes in urban areas of Chicago were reduced by 40-60% as a result of the work of the Interrupters. Prometheus seeks to achieve the same results in the UAC. We are dedicated to curing the disease of violence in our community and ultimately across the nation, by first raising awareness of the magnitude of violent crimes in the UAC and implementing Prometheus and the Interrupters to eradicate violence in our community.
