Smiles, telescopes, children and the desire of looking more closely at the stars: a bit of GalileoMobile.
GalileoMobile is non-profit traveling science communication project that brings astronomy to children in remote communities. The team organizes hand-on activities and astronomical observations in school and villages. GalileoMobile seeks to promote interaction among people beyond geographical boundaries.
In 2009, the team traveled more than 7,000 km accross South America visiting 33 schools.
The team members are from several nationalities originating from different cultures and speaking different languages.
The GalileoMobile project also extends its impact to a worldwide audience through the production of deliverables.
In 2012, we returned to Bolivia for a short pilot expedition in the amazonian province of Pando. In the same year, we accomplished our second itinerant project to the Indian state of Karnataka. Over 1,400 students and 100 teachers were reached.
The Brabo project consists of a future expedition to the Amazon region of Bolivia and Brazil. Over 1,500 students, 700 teachers and 1,000 local people are expected to be reached.
