Our Daily Palm Oil - Peru's Rainforest Threatened by Monocultures

A short film by Nils Reinecke, commissioned by German NGO Rette den Regenwald (Rainforest Rescue) documenting the destruction of rainforests in Peru by palm oil companies. A community is fighting back against a company that's already cleared 10,000 hectares of forest to grow palm oil for biofuel. The situation is made more perelous by a free trade agreement being drawn up between the EU and Peru which would pave the way for 4.3 million hectares of forest being used for palm oil monocultures, with environmental and human rights provisions explicitly removed from the agreement.
