Editor's note: We're big fans of Prince Ea's videos, and there's a lot of great stuff in this film, but sadly the ask at the end lets it down. We are alerted to a grave crisis and asked to buy our way out of it by donating $'s to a carbon credit scheme that uses the much-criticised REDD mechanism as a means of reducing carbon emissions by offsetting them against allowing forests to remain intact. It's a bit like finding out a corporation is pumping carcinogenic chemicals into your community and telling people to donate money to help provide care for cancer patients in another town and doing nothing to stop the company responsible.

Prince Ea identifies the fact that politicians are in the pocket of big corporations, but promotes a scheme partly financed by the US government and corporations. We should not be appealing to bought politicians, relying on the markets or corporatized NGOs that push market-based mechanisms. The only way to stop the wholesale destruction of our planet is to stop those responsible; the corporations and economic systems that put profit at the core of everything they do. In order to do that we need an environmental spring, a mass uprising of people against corporations that aims to shut them the fuck down.
