Good news for NYC! Films For Action has been kind enough to allow me to affiliate with them here in NYC. FFA sponsors screenings of films that promote social change all over the country as well as online. If you want more info on FFA their main URL is https://www.filmsforaction.org/.
I too, love films that wake people up, challenge their preconceptions, and inspire them to actually do something after the film is over! I'm a Manhattanite, and a media activist. I've been holding local screenings for the last 3.5 years and have over 100 full length films that range from excellent to totally stunning, and I'm not exaggerating. I've also got a small projector, speakers and a laptop to run the show. I travel anywhere I can go by subway and screen for groups of five or more people - at no cost.
The 'no-cost' part is what allows me to do this work. A pro-bono (no-fee) screening is 100% legal. It is considered use for 'educational purposes' under the 'fair use' doctrine of US copyright law. So as long as I (or you) don't charge money, we can do screenings everywhere. When truthful information is blocked out of mainstream media, we can learn to share it with each other.
I've been running this series of screenings under the name M.O.R.E. for (M)edia (O)ut (R)each (E)ffort - which describes the concept pretty well. But if people think that 'advertising' with the FFA 'brand' would be more effective, I'm happy to change the name.
This is my current form of political action. It's the one that after long thought I feel will be the most effective... I've done (too many) demos, signed a zillion petitions, I'm a registered voter, all that good stuff - none of it seems to change much. We march like lockstep lemmings ever closer toward the cliff of social collapse, ecological disaster, and possible extinction, both of humans, and perhaps all higher life forms on Earth. If you think that's too alarmist, please let me show you some of the films I have that expose the truth! We are at a critical cusp in the Earth's history - and our future is uniquely threatened...
All of the films are archived as computer files, typically mp4's on a small hard drive, I can play through my system, or plug the hard drive into a computer, a bigger system, and fill a theater. Or screen in your living room for a group of friends. It's not about me, it's about spreading vital information in entertaining and compelling ways, to as many people as possible, as quickly as I/we can. The time we have left is very short; dark storm clouds gather ever faster.
What I/we need is venues, places to screen. Got the gear, got the films, need places that can provide electrical power, a blank white wall, and seating for whatever size audience we can squeeze in. The venue could be someone's apartment, a church, a community center, a school, a local restaurant/bar, the list is only limited by our imagination.
If you are interested in attending (or creating) a screening, please contact me - I'm John Hechtman, my email is [email protected]. I'm not hard to find, just Google my name, or go to my website - www.zenarrow.com.
To whet your appetite, here's a (very) partial list of the films available to screen. This list is only half of what I have - I'm always scrambling to keep it up to date, but it's a start. Now, with my affiliation with FFA, we ALSO have the complete FFA library available.

Some will ask, "Why is this written in the first person? That's not a typical news style." But that impersonal, anonymous, indifferent style is part of what we have to change. I am talking to you, or you to me. True communication is always person to person, any other approach is alienating...
