In an era of budget deficits, states around the country are targeting the rights, benefits, and services that low- and middle-income Americans depend on to close the gaps. Meanwhile, the growing US Uncut movement is pointing out that many of the deep cuts to services for low-income and middle class Americans could be avoided if only huge corporations like Bank of America and General Electric paid their taxes (despite billions in profits, neither paid taxes in 2010). Meanwhile President Obama has appointed G.E. CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt to head the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.

We had to share this clip from The Daily Show, which cleverly illustrates the contradictions plaguing U.S. economic policies.

A documentary that Americans won't ever see. The gigantic biotech corporation Monsanto is threatening to destroy the agricultural biodiversity which has served mankind for thousands of years. There’s nothing they are leaving untouched: the mustard, the okra, the bringe oil, the rice, the cauliflower. Once they have established the norm: that seed can be owned as their property...
"Solidarity! All for One and One for All!" With that slogan, the Industrial Workers of the World, aka the Wobblies, took to organizing unskilled workers into one big union and changing the course of history. Along the way to winning an eight-hour workday and fair wages in the early 20th century, the Wobblies were one of the few unions to be racially and sexually integrated and often met with...
" BREAKING THE SILENCE is a film with enormous emotional power, bringing us the human consequences of our military attacks on Middle East countries. It also provides us with important insights into the reasons for these cruelties, exposing the emptiness and hypocrisy of the claims made by the Bush administration that it is fighting terrorism and promoting freedom . I wish this film...
Episode 1 – The Battle Begins In the 1970s the world seemed to be falling apart. From acid rain to overpopulation, ecological concerns were at the fore. And it was at this time that climate change first became a hot political issue. But it wasn’t global warming that frightened scientists, it was the complete opposite; a new ice age.Dr Iain Stewart traces the history of climate...
As expected the, NRA wasn 't particularly pleased with President Obama's gun control proposals. And why not? As Jon Stewart outlined on Wednesday night's "Daily Show", the organization has enjoyed massive influence on gun laws and their enforcement for quite a while. If you've been asking yourself why the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms hasn't been...
PETA purchased ad spot airtime on NBC during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, however the network rejected PETA’s ad because the “commercial does not meet NBC Universal standards.” I guess they found PETA’s take on Thanksgiving a little disturbing.
In a special Friday night Republican National Convention edition of The Daily Show , host Jon Stewart took on Clint Eastwood and the now-infamous empty chair. As they say in the circus, just watch.
“If you’re going to have a rally where hundreds of thousands of people show up, you might as well go ahead and make it about something.” Bill Maher lambasts the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert “Rally to Restore Sanity” as misguided in its call for “moderation” at a time when clear-headed people should be standing up firmly for what’s right.
John McCain is soaring to new heights of hypocrisy on his wife's personal jet. He flies around the country bent on duping the public into believing he's "one of them," a regular guy who can empathize with Americans facing an overwhelming economic crush. What's more, he disparages those who oppose his ridiculous policy proposals as "elitist." But who's the real elitist? The corporate press...
