Tribecca Film Institute Creates $1 Million Grant for Social Documentaries

Tribeca Film Institute and Ford Foundation's JustFilms have partnered to create an annual grant supporting non-fiction transmedia projects centering on social justice and equality, with this year's $750,000 award total stepping up to $1 million per annum for the following five years.

Projects chosen by the Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fund will each get $50,000 to $100,000 to support cross-platform storytelling as a key component of aud engagement. Another element of the grant will require some recipients to document their process in order to accumulated a trans-media best-practice resource for filmmakers.

Ford Foundation's recently established JustFilms is a five-year, $50 million push to support docu filmmakers taking on urgent social issues. TFI is the nonprofit arts org related to the Tribeca Film Festival, which this year runs April 20-May 1.

Submissions from the U.S. and abroad will be accepted April 4-May 25, recipients will be announced in September.
