Hypocritical US Smuggles Weapons Into Argentina

By Punk Johnny Cash / anarch.me

BBC News reports that Argentina has accused the US of trying to smuggle weapons and satellite phones into the country after cargo on a US military plane was seized last week. Based on the assumption that Argentina’s claims are accurate this issue displays yet another double standard of the US empire. PJ Crowley of the US state department in response said they were “puzzled and disturbed” by the actions of Argentine officials, who had conducted an “unusual and unannounced” search of the aircraft.

Often when the US is toting its weapons around the world I tend to have a negative reaction. As an anarchist I base this on my opposition to the use of force to obtain rule and power. The weapons are a thing I naturally want to speak out against but will not. In this case the disturbing part is the response of PJ Crowley in finding the search seizure of US government property as puzzling and disturbing. Every day the US subjects it’s citizens to search and seizure in airports by the TSA, on roadsides by Police and through new and more intrusive means each day with laws such as the PATRIOT act.

This displays the state’s desire to use such powers against others and not to be subject to the same rules it puts in place. The state demands submission within its occupied territory, yet expects exemption for its activities under territories that are occupied by other ruling forces. It sets rules and laws that it is not willing to abide by when confronted with similar demands and powers. If any individual were caught ‘smuggling’ weapons and phones into a US airport they would most likely be labeled a terrorist. No doubt the individual would be seen as a danger and demonized by US media. This will most likely get little attention and there will be little expectation of the US to be held to the same laws and standards it sets out for its subjects.
