New Human Rights Film Series in Columbus, OH

By Marcus Erridge / filmsforaction.org

The Human Rights Film Series will run through 2013, providing an opportunity each month for audiences to explore a different human rights issue with local non-profits and get involved in community actions. Screenings will normally take place on the third Thursday of the Month, starting at 7pm. We will show an innovative range of challenging documentaries - films that you may not get to see anywhere else. Films For Action OH links with organizations, who work on human rights issues in your community. So come along, learn more about the issues you care about, and see how you can make a difference!

The Human Rights Film Series kicks off on January 17 with “We’re Not Broke”.  This fascinating documentary stunned audiences and received rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival for skilfully exposing how multinational corporations are permitted to cheat America out of 100s of billions of dollars in tax revenue. With the current debates around taxes, austerity cuts, and the “Fiscal Cliff,” it’s an ideal time to see this film…and take action!

“We’re Not Broke” is the perfect film for the Human Rights Film Series Launch on Thursday 17th January. The Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) and Move To Amend will guide discussions around issues raised in “We’re Not Broke” and organize local actions.  Audience members can take direct action with the Move To Amend Stampede by stamping their money that very night and join a demonstration organized by PIRG the following day!

For all screening events, there will be a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds go towards covering venue costs and purchasing films for future screenings. Don't miss out on the action...check back here for regular updates!

Full screening dates in 2013 are: 17 Jan, 21 Feb, 21 Mar, 11 Apr, 16 May, 20 Jun, 18 Jul, 15 Aug, 19 Sep, 17 Oct, 21 Nov and 19 Dec.

We are always on the look out for interesting new documentaries that look at issues of social justice, civil and human rights. If you are a filmmaker, then please get in touch regarding submissions.
