It's been five years since the Films For Action project began in Lawrence, Kansas. It started with one simple idea: we can't depend on the mainstream media to inform us, so let's become the media ourselves by hosting documentaries on issues that the corporate media ignores. Over the years we've hosted over 30 film screenings, launched a website that has attracted over 380,000 visits to date, launched a handful of campaigns, helped pass a Peak Oil Resolution with our Lawrence City Commission, and made our 200+ documentary collection available to everyone in Lawrence who would like to use our films.

In November 2010, after a year in development and over a thousand hours of work from 3 of our dedicated staff, we launched our new website, which has shifted the focus from a simple single-city project to one that is national and international in scope. Our new site enables any city to create their own chapter anywhere in the world, and we now have 9 chapters from San Francisco to Kaitaia, New Zealand in the early stages of development. Our site's mission has expanded to provide free and easy-to-use website infrastructure that give cities a central destination to stay informed, organize and connect with others. These features are complimented by our global content, which now includes a resource library of over 950 online films covering every issue that is central tocreating a more just and sustainable world.

Now, heading into 2012, we're ready to kick things into the next gear and we need your help. We need to raise $20,000 to fund the next phase of this initiative. The funds will go towards:

*Our long term strategic plan to inspire and build a decentralized, independent mass media network run by the people 

*Significantly expanding our website with new features and content

*Producing and distributing original city chapter materials and resources

*Paying 1 full time and 1 part-time staff for a year

*Launching dozens of new city chapters and providing on-going consultation and support

*Strategic website promotion
*Many new film screenings

*Web hosting costs

*Video equipment for short films covering the local activist community
